About Us

Friendly Ave. Church of Christ began the Caring By Sharing Clothing Giveaway in 2012.  Knowing that some members of our community were experiencing hard times, we looked to provide assistance to men, women, and children with one of their most basic needs – clothing.

Not knowing what to expect from our first year’s event, we were blessed by its immediate success.  We helped 691 individuals, which represented 401 families, with free clothing.  We gave free childcare to 126 children so that their parents could shop.  The greatest statistic was that 86 people indicated that they’d like to learn more about Jesus. Each year the giveaway has grown and we welcomed 1192 individuals in 2015.

To benefit from the giveaway is easy.  JUST SHOW UP!  There is no screening process.  We will ask that you complete a registration form so that we’ll know how many people/families we help.

The event is usually scheduled for the third Saturday in August each year.  Registration opens around 7:15 am.  There is NO pre-registration.  Once you’ve registered, you’ll be given 2 shopping bags per family member, with a maximum of 8 bags per family.  Shopping begins at 8:00am and each group will be given 25 minutes to shop.  At approximately 1pm, or once everyone in the line has shopped one time, everyone who is interested, will have the opportunity to re-enter the shopping area and take as much clothing as you like.

It is our hope that the Caring By Sharing Clothing Giveaway will continue to be an annual event which the entire community will become involved.  For additional information please Email us.

Items Donated

  • Pray that we will be able to help as many people as possible on the day of the event, and that they will see and feel God’s love through us.
  • Donate clothing (includes any type of clothing in good condition for men, women and children, including coats, hats, scarves, ties, shoes, purses, etc., for all seasons)
  • Donate solid color collared shirts in children’s sizes. Donations may also be provided via cash or checks to go towards purchasing shirts.
  • Volunteer for the day of the event – help needed in many areas such as helping the shoppers find clothing, assisting with child care, security, to name a few.
  • Complimentary breakfast and lunch will be provided for all volunteers.

In addition to clothing, we have several other ways you can help us.

  1. Clothing Racks – If you have a clothing rack/s we can borrow for the event, please let us know.  We need as many as we can get starting the Monday prior to the event.  We’re happy to pick them up, just click on the email link below and let me know.
  2. Shopping Bags – We need LOTS of paper or plastic shopping bags.  These should NOT be the plastic grocery bags as they are too small.  Plastic retail shopping bags are perfect, as are paper grocery bags.

Frequently Asked Questions

Currently we do not pre-register anyone for the event. However, you can print the registration form in advance and fill it out if you’d like. Keep in mind that doing this does NOT reserve you a place in line.
No. In fact, you are not allowed to take any personal bags (duffle bags, backpacks, suitcases, etc.) inside the shopping areas. Ladies are encouraged to leave your purses in the trunk of your car, if possible, so you’ll have your hands free to shop.

We provide you shopping bags in increments of 2 bags per shopper, or a maximum of 8 bags per family.

No. During registration, you’ll be asked to list the family members you’re shopping for and we provide shopping bags accordingly.
We provide FREE childcare for children up to 6 years of age. At registration we ask if you’d like for your children to be taken to the childcare area. If yes, you’ll register your child and be given a special sticker that you MUST hang on to in order to pick your child up when you’re ready to leave.

Our childcare consists of areas based on the age of your child. Infants are kept separately from the older children. No one under 18 years is allowed to volunteer in the nursery. There is, at least one adult in each classroom, with at least two helpers. Bathroom facilities exist in each room. Children will be given an opportunity to do age-related activities, including coloring, games, tv, etc. NO FOOD will be offered to your children, however, water will be available.

Yes. We have many volunteers inside the shopping area who are happy to help you find the items you’re looking for.
We try to be as fair as possible to all of our guests. Limiting the shopping time allows most everyone who attends the giveaway a chance to find what they need. Again, knowing that 25 minutes isn’t a lot of time to shop, we do provide additional time at the end of our giveaway, usually around 1pm, for you to return and take as much clothing as you’d like.
We believe that it is our God-given responsibility to share our blessings with others. Everything we own is a gift from God and we love this opportunity to share these gifts with our community.
